Ruby Throated Hummingbird

September 3rd, 2008

Sometime in mid August the hummingbird population begins to greatly increase.   This will continue through mid September as the hummingbirds migrate south.  Last year I started putting out feeders and put in a good sized patch of plants that hummingbirds like.  To my surprise they like my Castor bean tree best of all and that one wasn’t even planted for them.  The cat’s whisker’s plant has been a huge it as well.

The local expert on hummingbirds has told me this is the book to get if you want to know more about Texas hummingbirds: Hummingbirds of Texas: With Their New Mexico And Arizona Ranges (Tam Nature Guides)
